Bolt modding a Model M keyboard presents several risks, but can be done reasonably easy if you account for the risks and work around them appropriately. Some of the risks of bolt modding a Model M are:
- Cracking the barrel plate while drilling
- Bending or irreversibly damaging springs
- Misaligning spring/flipper assemblies during reassembly
- Cracking the barrel plate while threading in screws
- And many other tiny risks that would fill 400 pages
The full tutorial will be arranged such as to avoid these risks whereever and whenever possible, though there is the small risk that something will happen during the bolt mod procedure. If that happens, either you messed something up or the barrel plate was already very weak or previously damaged.
